What is white collar k9?
White Collar K9 ... because Collies have white “collars”
White Collar K9 offers K9 Nose Work classes and semi or private lessons. Group classes currently available: Intro and Advanced classes, Monday evenings at Stone Pony Ranch in Moorpark ; Foundation Development Class and Team Skill Building Class, rotating locations for Valley Hills Obedience Club on Tuesday evenings; occasional spots available for the continuing / advanced weekend class in Pasadena. See the Calendar for address and times. Private or small group lessons can be scheduled in the San Gabriel, San Fernando, Santa Clarita, or Simi Valley areas. Classes are taught by Michelle Doram, CNWI & AKC Scent Work Judge.
Michelle began K9 Nose Work classes in 2010 with her spaniel mix puppy, Kacie. She now particularly enjoys helping develop the unique bond between dog and handler that Scent Work creates, and helping the handlers learn more about their dog’s working style. Michelle has been a Certified Nose Work Instructor since 2013. Her favorite focus for training is foundation skill reinforcement for dogs of all levels, as well as trial prep. Her own dogs have achieved various title levels: Nate ELT2, a tricolor Collie mix, earned his NW3 Elite in 2015 with High In Trial on his final NW3; Cedar NW3x2, a sable Rough Collie, was among the first three purebred Collies to earn a NW3 title in 2016, with a Pronounced designation and Second Place overall; Clover, a tricolor headed white Rough Collie, earned her NW2 title in 2016 with a Pronounced designation and second place overall; Kacie, a Brittany Spaniel mix, earned her NW1 title with Second Place overall in 2012. Burdock, a sable Collie, joined the family in the summer of 2018 as a puppy and loves to play the game!
Snourcing ... Foundation Is Everything
Snourcing™ is just a term I coined via lucky accident. I was describing the importance of the dog being rewarded while sniffing source. Those two words combined to create a perfect term, now a verb and occasionally, a fun training clinic. Snourcing - duration and intensity while sniffing source - is a key foundation ingredient which has significant impact on the dogs’ odor obedience and motivation. See the Events Calendar page for Workshop dates!
